A male passenger in his 30s was discovered aboard an Emirates to Hyderabad on April 4, heavily bleeding in the restroom.

According to Indian media reports, that quoted police, the passenger allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat and hands with a sharp blade in the restroom of flight EK526 shortly before it landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.

The Dubai-based airline confirmed the incident with Emirates 24|7: “Emirates can confirm that on April 4, 2014 an incident occurred during flight EK526 from Dubai to Hyderabad whereby a passenger was found bleeding heavily in the restroom just before descent by cabin crew.

“The crew administered all the necessary treatment onboard.”

The statement continued: “Upon arrival into Hyderabad the passenger was met by medical crews and taken to a nearby hospital.

“As a result of this incident the aircraft was unable to be utilised for the carriage of passengers and has been flown back to Dubai for maintenance.”

An Emirates spokesperson added that a replacement aircraft was made ready and arrived into Hyderabad.

They added: “As the matter is now under investigation, Emirates cannot comment further on the incident.”

The New Indian Express quoted RGIA police inspector A Krishnaiah as saying: “One of the air-hostesses saw the passenger lying in the washroom of the plane in a pool of blood and alerted the flight staff.

“After the plane landed, the flight staff alerted the airport staff who shifted him to a corporate hospital for treatment.”
