Indian tycoon Gangu Batra passes away

The former President and CEO of UAE-based Jashanmal Group, Gangu Batra, passed away in New York yesterday.
 
The Indian tycoon, who was a well-revered personality amongst the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) business community here, died of natural causes.
 
He was 84.
 
He leaves behind three children who are settled in the US.
 
Batra worked in Jashanmal for nearly six decades, starting out as a salesman in the early 1950s and working through the ranks to rise to the level of the President and Group CEO of Jashanmal Group of Companies (JGC).
 
For many across the Indian business community, Batra was one of the pioneers who shaped the retail industry of the Dubai, transforming the Jashanmal Group from a one shop enterprise into a 100-store empire.
