A Sri Lankan national who was trying to smuggle gold in his rectum was arrested at the Mumbai international airport while arriving from Dubai, ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported on Wednesday (13).

The suspect has been identified as Abdul Rehman (35) who had stuffed five gold biscuits, weighing 500 grams each inside his body to dupe customs officials.

He landed on Monday morning at Mumbai international airport on a flight from Dubai and was trying to leave through the green channel with only hand baggage.

The customs officials noticed the nervous behaviour of the foreign national and checked his baggage revealing nothing.

Later, his body was checked with a metal detector which started beeping around his waist following which he was interrogated.

“After questioning Rehman confessed that he was carrying five gold biscuits in his rectum,” the customs official said.

The biscuits were wrapped in a carbon paper and taped.

The customs official said that his passport records showed he had made more than 25 trips between Dubai and Mumbai and was planning to sell the biscuits in Mumbai.
