A British man can get drunk by simply eating chips or mashed potato.

Nick Hess would wake up feeling sick or even suddenly feel after meals.

And his wife would go looking around the houses for hidden bottles, convinced he was a secret alcoholic.

However, it has now been diagnosed that Hess suffers from 'auto-brewery syndrome', according to ‘newsbite.it’, quoting a ‘Metro’ source.

This means that his stomach has an overgrowth of yeast which turns any carbohydrates he eats into alcohol.

At the hospital, doctors fed him a heavy meal of carbs which caused his blood alcohol level to shoot up to 120 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, and thus, it was clear he suffered from the syndrome.

Now, Hess is on anti-fungal drugs and low-carb diets to combat the condition.
