Mob lynches alleged rapist in Indian prison

Two northeastern states in India are put on high alert after a mob lynched a rape accused.

The group of more than 2,000 people broke into a prison on Thursday where the rape-accused was being held and dragged him out on to the streets naked before lynching him and hanging his body from a clock tower, reported ToI.

Syed Sarif Uddin Khan had been accused of raping a Naga woman, and was in judicial custody when the incident took place.

One person, alleged to have been part of the mob that lynched the man, has died of injuries sustained in police firing, report6ed ‘NDTV’.

Police is investigating the case, while government has action has been taken against three officials for not controlling the situation on time.
