Heavy monsoon rains have caused flash floods and landslides killing more than 100 in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Friday.

Nearly 10,000 people are stranded across the state where the Army is assisting National Disaster Response Force or NDRF personnel in rescue operation, reported NDTV.

The uptown area of capital Srinagar is the worst affected as River Jhelum is flowing several feet above the danger mark. Two vital medical facilities in the city have been submerged in the flood waters.

The flood has affected almost all 10 districts in the Jammu region. Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have damaged roads, dozens of bridges, buildings and crops.

Meanwhile, flash floods in Pakistan’s Punjab region has also claimed several lives and left many homeless.

Chenab River and Jhelum River are overflowing, resulting in landslides and short circuits. Cotton farms are inundated in water and many homes are washed away.

The National Disaster Management Authority called for evacuating the population from the lowlands of Punjab.

Pakistan regularly suffers from flooding during the monsoon season. In 2010, flash floods killed 1,700 people in Pakistan.
