The Ajman Court of Appeal has issued a verdict sentencing a man to three years in jail, and his wife to six months in jail, after they were found guilty of attempting to sell their four children (two boys and two girls), for Dh200,000.

The ages of the children and nationality of the family has been withheld.

According to a report in Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm, the police had received a tip-off that a couple were trying to sell four children.

After confirmation of the veracity of the information, the police set up a sting operation, where one of the Ajman CID officers posed as a human trafficker.

At first the husband wanted Dh60,000 for each son.

Finally he agreed with the undercover officer to sell all four children in return for Dh200,000  and even offered to write a document that the children were taken with his consent.

The final deal took place at a hotel in Ajman where the police then arrested the accused red-handed -  selling the children and receiving  the money.

The accused were subjected to interrogation where they admitted attempting to sell their children.
