A Dubai Metro passenger claims he was overcharged for his regular trips over several weeks and has demanded reimbursement from the authorities.

The passenger, Patrick Francis, who is a regular commuter between Ibn Battuta (IB) and Jumairah Lakes Towers (JLT), said he was repeatedly charged Dh4.10 for travelling between the stations instead of the original fair of Dh2.30.

"This has been happening over the last two to three weeks," the Indian executive who lives in Discovery Gardens and works at JLT was quoted as saying by Xpress. He also claimed that the charge for the feeder bus from Ibn Battuta Metro Station to Discovery Gardens has been "raised" to Dh4.10.

He offered a transaction history slip as proof of overcharge.

He also claimed that apart from his daily trips between JLT and IB, he was also overcharged a few other times. Once between IB and Financial Centre he was charged Dh5.8 instead of Dh4.10 and again he had to pay 5.80 instead of 4.60 while travelling between IB and Deira City Centre, he claimed.

He also alleged that the officials at customer counter in the station were of no help when he complained to them about the overcharge.

However, Ramadan Abdullah, Rail Operations Director under the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said there the Rail Agency had not increased tariffs, adding they had ways to deal with complaints of overcharging.

"If customers are in doubt about their journey and charges, they can go to any Metro station ticket office and discuss with them to clarify and they [the customer] can be assisted."
