Patients in Egypt, Sudan get free medicine
Thousands of patients in Egypt and Sudan recently received free medicine from the Emirates Medicine Bank through Emirati mobile clinics, said Dr. Adel al Shameri, Executive Director of the Zayed Giving Initiative, today.
The bank, which was launched in 2011 by the Zayed Giving Initiative to benefit underprivileged patients throughout the world, is operating in response to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving.
The Emirates Medicine Bank is the first initiative of its kind in the region to offer free medicine to underprivileged patients, Al Shameri said.
Volunteer doctors and pharmacists continue to collect extra medicine, medical supplies and equipment from residential areas and institutions to help underprivileged patients, said Dr Shamsa Al Awar, Executive Director of Doctors for Humanity, a UAE-based volunteer association.
