Annabelle's Congress: Kills rumours about Richard married to Sarah

MANILA  - The stage-mother, talent manager and actress Annabelle Rama is confident of becoming a congresswoman representing the North District of the central Philippine city of Cebu.

“No. 1,” she told showbiz reporters in Manila over the weekend, referring to her becoming the eventual winner in the May 13 election. “All the common tao (people) there love me.”

Despite her busy schedule in campaigning for her candidacy, Rama flew to Manila to attend the 50th birthday of Senator Jose Pimentel Ejercito Jr, better known as Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, son of former president Joseph Estrada.

In the meantime, entertainment scribes were surprised that the feisty Rama, always described as mataray (shrewish), has mellowed a lot.

“It must be because it’s the election season, and she needs to project a friendly face, in order to generate votes,” one spunky reporter commented.

Rama wasn’t miffed at all when another reporter relayed to her the bad feedback on the performance of her son, Richard Gutierrez, in the romantic film ‘Seduction’, shown in Metro Manila theatres three weeks ago.

“That’s fine,” she said. “You can’t have anybody taking Richard’s side. That’s all right with me, so that next time he will try to improve his acting.”

Gutierrez has his girlfriend, Sarah Lahabati, for a leading lady in ‘Seduction’, under the direction of Peque Gallaga, who created the internationally acclaimed ‘Oro Plata Mata’.

Rama dismissed as untrue the rumours going around that Gutierrez had wed Lahbati in a secret marriage arranged late last year.

“Well, I do not know all the other stories because, you yourselves know, I now reside in Cebu,” she said. “But I have no complaint if ever it’s Sarah that my son will marry eventually. She’s a good girl.”
