Kris, Pokwang support Direk Cayetano’s polls candidacy

MANILA Presidential sister and actress Kris Aquino and comedienne Pokwang have thrown their support for movie/TV director Lino Cayetano, who is running for congressman in Metro Manila’s suburb of Taguig.

Mr Cayetano, brother of Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano and son of the late senator Renato Cayetano, revealed this in an interview with the tabloid ‘X-Files.

“I thank Kris for having us [he and his two siblings] on her show recently,” said the director, who has taken a leave of absence from his directorial obligations in the run-up to the general election in May. “She also told me that she would be supporting my candidacy.”

He has also thanked Pokwang, who voluntarily threw her support for his candidacy. He said that the comedienne had told him that she would be going to Taguig on her own just to campaign for him.

In the meantime, Mr Cayetano said he hasn’t heard anything from his three exes in show business, namely, KC Concepcion (daughter of megastar Sharon Cuneta), Bianca Manalo (beauty queen-turned-actress), and Liz Uy (celebrity stylist and fashion editor-at-large).

Although he would not ask directly for their support, Mr Cayetano said he is hoping that these beautiful, popular, and talented women would support him as well, stressing that he has remained friends with them after their breakups.

Mr Cayetano, who had undergone a liver operation for the organ transplantation done on his sick father before he died, is the youngest in a brood of four.

Besides directing movies and TV shows, he also teaches filmmaking at the country’s best school, University of the Philippines-Diliman. He studied filmmaking at New York University.

Mr Cayetano has been a barangay captain in one of the villages in Taguig, which is the bailiwick of the Cayetanos, for the past two years. He said it was his about 300,000 constituents who urged him to run for higher officer, in order that he could serve them and the city of Taguig better.
