MANILA - A man was berated and knifed to death by his wife in this city’s depressed district of Tondo while a councilor was shot to death by a still unidentified suspect in front of his wife.

Roy Guillermo, 33, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tondo Medical Center after his wife slit his throat with a kitchen knife when he got drunk and he pestered her for loose change to buy more booze.

The 45-year-old Reynaldo Capalad, on the other hand, died while being treated at the Metropolitan Hospital for a gunshot wound on his face and neck. The bullet entered a part of his face and exited through his neck.

Police Officer 3 Edwin Guzman, of the Station Investigation Division of Navotas Police, said Guillermo had attempted to hit his wife with an empty bottle of whiskey, prompting the latter to kill him unintentionally.

The wife, HG, also 33, has surrendered to the police, and said that she had killed her husband in self-defence.

Capalad, a councilor of Barangay 168, Zone 15, District 2, was shot Friday at the corner of Callejon and Bato Streets, in Tondo.

His wife, Maricel, said she and her husband were walking around the area when suddenly an armed man appeared from nowhere and shot her husband without saying a word.

Police said they have arrested a suspect, whom they described as between aged between 30 and 40, of medium-build, and 5-foot-3 in height.
