Saudi Arabia seized nearly 137,000 liquor bottles as they were being smuggled into the Gulf Kingdom, where alcohol is strictly banned, official data showed on Tuesday.

The world’s largest oil exporter also busted a staggering 30 million drug pills and about 17 kg of heroin, showed the figures by the Saudi customs department.

The report did not say how many persons were arrested in connection with the smuggled narcotics.

Saudi Arabia, one of the most conservative Moslem nations, enforces death punishment against narcotic traffickers.
