17.5kg tumor removed from 85-year-old woman

Saudi doctors removed a 17.5kg tumor from the abdomen of an 85-year-old local woman in a 20-hour surgery, newspapers said on Tuesday.

Doctors at the King Abdullah Medical City in the western town of Makkah said the operation was successful and the woman’s condition was improving.

Newspapers said a team of surgeons using chemical medicine and other methods performed the surgery and that they managed to remove the whole tumor.

“It was one of the longest and most difficult operations conducted at the hospital.

“It also included reconstruction of the digestive system,” one doctor said.
