300 kg woman saved in rain-hit Jeddah

Saudi civil defence teams used a boat to rescue a 300-kg woman who was stranded in her second floor apartment in Jeddah, where many people have been killed or injured because of heavy rain, the Arabic language daily Alwatan said on Tuesday.

It said 10 civil defence divers reached the flat and struggled to carry the massive woman down to the first floor before moving her to a waiting boat in the flood-hit area in the western Red Sea port, the second largest city in the Gulf Kingdom.

“The rescue operation was carried out in two phases-- the first was to carry the woman down and the second was to transfer her to the boat. She was saved and taken to a safe place,” the paper said.
