60 sheep perish in bizarre disease in Saudi

A bizarre illness similar to foot-and-mouth disease killed nearly 60 sheep in Saudi Arabia and vets said they were still investigating the case.

The sheep belong to Saudi farmer Turki Al Otaibi, who said he was shocked to find all but four of his sheep dead although they had been vaccinated for foot-and-mouth disease. The farmer in the central town of Dawadmi said government vets had checked the sheep and collected samples of their blood for tests.

“It is similar to the foot-and-mouth disease but doctors said they are conducting tests and would let me know later…I have never heard that foot-and-mouth disease could kill such a number of sheep in just two days…it might be another disease,” he said, quoted by ‘Sabq’ newspaper.
