At least 16 killed in Russia coal mine blast

At least 16 people were confirmed dead and two missing after a blast in a coal mine in the Komi region in Russia's Far North, the emergencies ministry said, raising the earlier death toll from 10.

Five people were rescued with varying injuries out of the 23 miners who had been working in the shaft where the methane explosion took place at the Vorkutinskaya mine, the emergencies ministry said in a statement on its website.
