Attempt made to rape girl during prayer time
Saudi Arabia’s Islamic police arrested a Syrian man for trying to rape a local girl at his shop during Azan (call for prayers), a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The unnamed expatriate waited for the girl to step into his shop in Riyadh and locked the door for Azan in line with existing rules in the Gulf Kingdom, Sharq Arabic language daily said.
“He tried to rape the girl but she started to scream and resist him…people heard her screams and came to his shop,” the paper said. “He then opened the door and let her out but she filed a complaint against him.”
The paper said members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice arrested the man and shut his shop.
Shops and other businesses in Saudi Arabia must close during prayers or risk imprisonment and paying fines.
