Baby born with intestines and spleen in chest

Saudi doctors had to open the body of a newborn baby to put his intestines and spleen back in their place as they were located in his chest, the online Arabic language daily Burnews reported on Thursday.

A team of surgeons operated on the 36-hour-old baby at King Abdullah Hospital in the southern province of Bisha and succeeded in moving the organs back to their right place in the abdomen, it said.

“It was one of the rarest cases and operations…the intestines and spleen were wrongly located in the left side of the chest, leading to contraction in the lungs and difficulty in breathing,” the paper said, quoting team leader Dr Abdul Rahman Al Maawi.
