Cars consume less petrol if their tyres are well balanced and air pressure is maintained at recommended levels, according to experts.

Experts at a seminar in the Saudi capital Riyadh said studies by car makers have shown that lack of balance would slow the vehicle down and increase pressure on the engine, causing it to consume more petrol.

“Drivers should always maintain a good balance in their car tyres and ensure air pressure is at the rate recommended by the car manufacturers,” they said in a statement at the end of the workshop, according to ‘Sada’ newspaper.

“Maintaining air pressure in all the tyres at the required levels will achieve several benefits for the vehicle, including reduction of fuel consumption, higher safety levels and longer tyre life.”
