Bug device found in Bahrain municipality

Employees at a Bahraini municipality have discovered a bug device inside their offices, prompting them to call for an investigation into the incident which they said violated personal freedoms.

The employees at the Muharreq Municipality said they believed the device had been planted next to their offices as an act of espionage, Alayam Arabic language daily reported on Tuesday.

“10 employees have presented a complaint to the municipal council, saying this device is intended to listen to what they say,” it said.

“The employees denounced this act as a serious development and a flagrant violation of personal liberties.”

The paper said the employees are planning to report the incident to judicial authorities but it gave no other details.

The island Kingdom of Bahrain, the smallest country in the Gulf, has been jolted by political unrest over the past years and officials have often accused Iran of involvement in the incidents.
