A chunk of the ceiling collapsed at Doha’s popular Landmark Mall on Wednesday evening, with two people reportedly injured in the incident.

The Ministry of Interior, Qatar, confirmed the news on its official social media account, saying: “Civil Defence acts on safety measures after collapse of a section of plaster from ceiling at Landmark mall.”

According to eye witness accounts, the incident occurred around 8.45pm, in front of the Argo Tea Café.

Mall goers stated they heard a loud crash and came “running” to see a large chunk of the plaster on the ground.

The mall was shortly evacuated, as Civil Defence teams were called to the scene.

Two people have been reportedly injured in the incident, as per Doha News, quoting a security managed at Landmark who stated ‘a woman was hit on the shoulder by some of the plaster and a baby was hit on the hand’.

Doha resident Shabina Khatri tweeted about the incident, saying: “Very fortunate this didn’t happen on a Thursday night; some injured in Landmark Mall ceiling collapse in Qatar.”

This is the second such incident reported for the mall, when in April 2013, Qatar media reported on a ceiling collapsing at the Haagen Dazs ice cream shop in Landmark Mall.

Meanwhile, in 2012, 19 people perished in a blaze that started in the Villagio Mall in Doha.
