An Indian couple on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia fulfilled their dream when the wife delivered a baby girl in Makkah, a day after the two prayed on Mount Arafat to have a daughter to join four brothers, a newspaper reported on Friday.

Mohammed Abdul Majid and his pregnant wife Qamar Mohammed said they had spent nearly 10 years saving money to perform Hajj (pilgrimage) in Saudi Arabia and achieved their dream this week by joining hundreds of thousands of Moslem pilgrims in Makkah.

Abdul Majid said he already had four sons and always prayed to have a daughter, adding that he decided to devote part of his prayers in Makkah for that dream.

“I and my wife prayed on Mount Arafat on Wednesday that she delivers a baby girl while we are in Makkah on Thursday, she went into labour and was rushed to a makeshift hospital, where she delivered a pretty and healthy girl,” he told Sabq newspaper.
He said he and his wife decided to name the girl “Mina” after the tent city of pilgrims in the western Saudi town of Makkah.

Bus driver killed by his vehicle’s door

A bus driver serving Muslim pilgrims in Makkah was killed after his head was caught by the automatic door of his vehicle in Saudi Arabia.
The driver has just transported a group of pilgrims in Makkah during this week’s Hajj season and was stepping out of his bus when his head got stuck by the closing door.

“Police later opened the door and rushed the man to the hospital but he was already dead,” Al Saudeh daily said without identifying the victim.
