Dad refuses to receive dead twins

A Saudi man is refusing to receive the dead bodies of his newborn twins from a hospital morgue, accusing it of causing their death and demanding investigation.

In a report from the northern province of Tabuk, Okaz Arabic language daily said Abdullah Al-Anzi insisted the twin boys were alive just after they were born at King Khaled hospital but a medical error caused their death.

It quoted him as saying his wife, who was pregnant in her sixth month, was examined at a medical centre just before he took her to the hospital for delivery.

“The doctor at the medical centre told me the twins are normal and my wife needs to be taken to the hospital…after the operation, the nurse told my wife they are dead but my wife insists that she heard one of them crying after delivery…this means they were alive after they were born and an error killed them,” he said.

“We have waited for nearly nine years to have a baby that will fill our life….once our dream was fulfilled, our delight died in its cradle….what also saddens me is that my wife is still in a shock after her womb was removed during the surgery.”

Anzi said he refused to receive the two bodies unless health authorities probe the case. Okaz quoted a health department spokeswoman as saying an investigation would be conducted based on Anzi’s charges against the hospital.
