A Saudi father whose nine-year-old daughter died at hospital received the wrapped body and headed back home to wash it before burial. When he uncovered the body, his grief turned into a shock as she was not his daughter.
Quoted by the Arabic language Almadina newspaper on Thursday, Yehya Al-Nazawi said he had suspected that the dead body was not that of his daughter as he felt thick hair on the head of the body.
"My daughter's head was shaven at hospital in the previous day and I was surprised to feel the hair while the body was wrapped in the shroud handed by the hospital's morgue," he said.
"When I unwrapped the body, I was shocked to see that she was not my daughter...In fact, I also suspect the way she died at the hospital."
Almadina said the management of the hospital in the northwestern town of Tabuk apologized to the father for the mistake, for which it blamed the morgue staff.
