A Saudi court sentenced five local men to a total 39 years in jail and ordered them lashed 8,000 times after they were caught with six women and liquor bottles at a party marking Valentine Day, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia’s religious police stormed the rest house where the party was held in the central town of Buraidah, Sabq said.

The court sentenced the first defendant to five years in jail and ordered him lashed 1,000 times in 10 batches.

It sentenced the second and third defendants to seven years each and ordered each of them lashed 1,500 times in 15 batches.

The fourth and fifth defendants were jailed for 10 years each and would get 2,000 lashes each in 20 batches.

The paper said the five would be lashed in public at the town centre and all of them were banned from travelling abroad for five years after completing their jail terms.

32 men nabbed at 'illegal concert' in Kuwait

Kuwaiti police arrested 32 men at an intimate party in the Gulf emirate and police said most of them were Kuwaitis and bedouins (without identity).

Police raided the place after receiving a tip off and rounded up all the revellers for staging an illegal concert and wearing women’s clothes.

The Arabic language daily Al Anba said those arrested also include non-Kuwaiti Arabs who would be immediately deported.
