A 26-year-old Saudi girl died after plunging into an uncovered manhole inside her family’s farm in the Gulf Kingdom, newspapers reported on Tuesday.

Police and civil defence men joined hands to quickly pluck the girl out, but she was already dead, they said.

“Police are investigating the incident to determine whether criminal act is involved,” the Arabic language daily ‘Sabq’ said in a report from the southern Najran province.

Woman killed by falling palm tree

A Saudi woman in her 40s died after a large palm tree fell on her head while she was passing in an area where some of the trees were being removed.

The farm owner has just severed that tree and pushed it down when the woman passed near it, ‘Sabq’ newspaper said in a report from the northwestern town of Jouf.

It said police arrested the Saudi farmer for interrogation on whether he was responsible for the woman’s death.
