Judge fined for doing 170kmph; Claims immunity

Saudi traffic police insisted on penalizing a judge for driving at 170 km per hour despite his argument that judges in the Gulf Kingdom enjoy immunity against such traffic penalties, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

The judge was hunted by a police speed camera on a motorway between the northwestern town of Jouf and the central province of Al-Qasim.

“He went to the police and asked for cancellation of the fine on the grounds judges are exempted…but police refused and insisted that he pay the fine, arguing that the traffic law does not exempt any offender from penalties,” the Arabic language daily Sharq said.
