Kuwait offers free flights back from Egypt

Published

Kuwait is bringing citizens and residents home from Egypt, hit by violent protests, on free flights, a senior official said on Saturday.

Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan al-Roudhan said "Kuwaiti citizens and residents are being brought back home on free flights in light of the current security troubles in Egypt," state news agency KUNA reported.

These orders have been "given to officials in Kuwait Airways (the country's national carrier), who are to coordinate efforts with Cairo International Airport, in order to allow extra flights to land in the airport."

Since Friday, Kuwait's foreign ministry has been "closely monitoring Kuwaiti citizens currently residing in Egypt, via a special operations room created for the task in coordination with the Kuwait embassy in Cairo," the statement quoted the ministry undersecretary Khaled al-Jarallah as saying.
