A well-known Kuwaiti businessman has gone missing near his palace in Romania just after he went out for his daily walking exercise, newspapers reported on Sunday.

Mohammed Al Baghli, 79, disappeared on Wednesday night near his palace in the south-central province of Prahova, they said.

Romanian police have mounted an extensive search operation while his family has announced a large sum for any information leading to the missing man, who has owned a palace in that European country for nearly 20 years.

Kuwaiti newspapers quoted his brother Ibrahim Al Baghli as saying Romanian authorities believe the businessman might have been kidnapped for ransom.
