An Egyptian truck driver working in Kuwait drove to neighbouring Iraq with a blocks shipment and returned to the Gulf emirate with nearly 370 kg of drugs.
Police said they had watched the driver for more than a week before he crossed the border with Iraq and returned to Kuwait after offloading the shipment.
“We found the drugs concealed in a secret place in the truck…we called fire men to wrest open the steel cover which was installed expertly by the driver,” Al Anba newspaper said, quoting Major-General Abdul Hamid al Awadi, interior ministry assistant undersecretary for criminal security.
He said the amount seized included around 360 kg of hashish and 10 kg of opium, adding that it was the largest narcotics quantity to be seized in years.
