Maid saves from pay to buy large villa in Saudi

An Indonesian housemaid became the owner of a large villa in Saudi Arabia after she saved up from a SR1,000 (Dh1,000) monthly salary during her 10-year work at a local house, newspapers reported on Sunday.

The papers published a picture of the villa taken by the maid’s former sponsor who appeared to be admiring the woman for her achievement.

“This is a picture of the villa owned by my previous maid in Saudi Arabia.

“She had worked for me for around 10 years and I swear to God that she has been honest and has not stolen me,” Mohammed Azuz said of the picture published on social networks.

Newspapers said scores of Saudi viewers expressed their surprise at the maid’s property, saying thousands of young citizens have not been able to own a house, although they earn much higher than the maid.
