A young Muslim pilgrim died while performing Umrah in Grand Mosque of Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.
Reports said that the pilgrim was performing Umrah and was doing tawaf (going round the Kaabah seven times) in the Grand Mosque on the 8th of Ramadan – Friday, July 27, 2012.
The reports didn’t identify the nationality of the pilgrim but said that the man died during tawaf wearing ahram (the dress put on when performing Umrah and Hajj). His funeral was held then and there in the Grand Mosque and was buried later in Makkah.
Around a dozen funerals are performed every day of the pilgrims who pass away there and also the dead bodies brought there for the funeral in the Grand Mosque from the nearby town of Makkah.
Approximately five million Muslims pilgrims gather in Makkah during the holy month of Ramadan to perform Umrah. Some estimates say that there are more pilgrims in Ramadan in the Grand Mosque than the pilgrims during the Hajj period.
