Man gets 12 years for beating mom

A Saudi court sentenced a local man to 12 years in prison for beating up his ageing mother and threatening her with a knife, a newspaper in the Gulf kingdom said on Wednesday.

The man, in his 40s, had rebuffed claims by his 80-year-old mother in previous complaints to the police in the central town of Makkah, saying she was making false claims because she is getting old.

“But police later found out he was lying…a court in Makkah sentenced him to 12 years in prison for hitting her mother and threatening her with a knife many times,” Almadina daily said.
