A Saudi court sentenced a Yemen hotel worker to seven years in prison and 500 lashes with the whip for his involvement in the death of a French man’s adopted teenage daughter in Makkah, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The court found the worker indirectly responsible for the death of Sara, who jumped from the 16th floor of a Makkah hotel after spending some time with the man in his room, 'Okaz' Arabic language daily sad.

“During the sessions, the judge confirmed that Sara was still virgin when she died and that she had not been raped,” the paper said.

The 15-year-old Sara, an Algerian, was buried in a cemetery in Makkah, Islam’s holiest shrine, in September while her father was performing pilgrimage.

Police said the girl jumped down when she was told that her father and other relatives were looking for her after learning she was with the Yemeni man, who is to be deported from Saudi Arabia after serving his jail term.
