Mom dies after getting son's kidney

A Saudi woman in her 70s died just a day after her son donated a kidney for her at a hospital in the Gulf Kingdom, a newspaper said on Friday.

The woman, who suffered from kidney failure, had refused her son’s donation due to fear for his health but was persuaded by doctors and her tribal chiefs.

Doctors at the National Guard Hospital said the transplant surgery was successful but that the woman suffered from a sudden lapse and her condition worsened.

Sabq newspaper said her 47-year-old son, Hussein Al Ghazi, received congratulations at the hospital on the operation’s success on the same day.

“On the next day, he received condolences on the death of his mother,” it added.
