Money guard vanishes with money

A security guard in charge of transporting money to banks in Saudi Arabia disappeared with nearly SR4.5 million after handing part of the funds just to one bank, local newspapers reported on Monday.

The unidentified security man waited for his colleague to go to the toilet at the bank in the eastern port of Khobar and drove away with the money.

“When I came out of the toilet, I could find neither the van nor my friend.....I called his mobile and he said he just nipped over to buy a meal,” his colleague said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Alriyadh.

“After he was late, I called him again and his mobile was turned off...I then realized there is something wrong, so I informed the police.”

Police said they later found the security van parked on a nearby road with its doors open but that its driver and the money had gone.
