No power? Blame it on rodents

Rodents creeping into a major electricity plant in Saudi Arabia triggered a fire and disrupted power supplies to many residents before the blaze was brought under control by the civil defence, a local newspaper said on Friday.

Fire swept through the power station in Al-Zahir area in the central town of Makkah and continued for several hours before it was put out by the civil defence, the Arabic language daily Shams said.

“The incident disrupted power supplies to the residents in that area but it was restored later after the fire was extinguished,”  the paper said, quoting civil defence spokesman Lt Colonel Ali Al-Montashiri.

“Preliminary investigation showed the incident was caused by some rodents which entered the main generators.”
