An Ethiopian housemaid in Saudi Arabia waited for her Syrian employers to go to work in the morning went to the bed room of their 10-year-old girl and hit her head with an iron while asleep before stabbing her in the neck many times, leading to her death.

When the shocked father later asked the maid whey she killed the girl, she told him that she was told to do so by an “occult power for an offering.”

Israa was asleep in her bedroom at their apartment in the Saudi capital Riyadh when the maid attacked her while the girl’s parents were at work.

Israa was rushed to hospital by an ambulance called by a neighbor but she died on arrival after she lost much blood.

“The main waited for Israa to go to bed and attacked her. Police arrested her just after the murder but she is still refusing to make any statement,” Sabq daily said.

It quoted an Arab neighbor as saying he was in his flat when Israa’s mother came banging his door to ask for help.

He said he went into that apartment and found Israa’s father hugging her and weeping. “He was in a very bad psychological condition. I then rushed and called the police and an ambulance but she died in hospital,” he said.

Quoted by Alsaudeh daily, the victim’s father Ismail Al Biqaei said the maid had been treated nicely by all family members and she had a good relationship with Israa.

“The maid had treated my daughter like her own daughter. She loved her and Israa had the same feeling. I did not have any problem with the maid,” he said.

“When I came back home around 10.30 am on that day, I asked her about Israa and she told me she was still in bed. I kept calling her but she would not reply so I went into her room and found her in a pool of blood in her bed. The maid said she killed her after she was told to do so by an occult power to present her as an offering. This is a very bad and weird religious belief and I call on all households not to hire any Ethiopian housemaid to avert the repetition of this tragedy.”
