A blind Saudi man in his 80s vanished inside the massive Masjid Al Haram (Grand Mosque), the world’s largest mosque, while performing Umrah (mini pilgrimage) nearly a week ago, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Ahmed Hadari had told his family he was heading for Masjid Al Haram in Makkah for Umrah, a common practice for Muslims worldwide during the fasting month of Ramadan. But he never returned home and was reported missing by his family.

“Police and relatives of Hadari appeal for the public to provide any information about his whereabouts. The man is blind and is suffering from poor perception,” police said in a statement carried by Sharq Arabic language daily.

The Grand Mosque is spread on around 356,000 square metres and can accommodate up to four million worshippers. The Mosque surrounds Islam’s holiest place, the Kaaba.
