Prison inmate refuses to leave for better pay

An Asian prison inmate in Saudi Arabia told authorities he does not want to be freed at the end of his term because he is making more money inside than outside, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Prison officials told the unidentified man he had completed his three-month jail term in the capital Riyadh and should get ready to leave, the online Arabic language daily 'Naltaqi' said.

The man had been sentenced to three months in prison for embezzling nearly SR700,000 ($190,000) from his employer.

Inside the prison, he started business for inmates by washing their clothes, tidying up their beds and cleaning the toilets,” the paper said.

“He was earning nearly SR2,000 a month in prison while his income outside was around SR1,500.…when he was told to get ready to leave jail, he refused and told prison officials he wants to stay in,” the paper added without making clear if his request was met.
