Saudi killer pardoned after 14 years in jail

A Saudi court scraped a death sentence against a convicted killer after his victim’s relatives pardoned him following mediation efforts of nearly 14 years.

Abdullah Al Ahmari was on the death row for nearly 14 years for killing a Saudi man during a fight before the victim’s son Mohammed Al Ahmari told court he had pardoned him, according to the Arabic language daily Okaz.

It said Ahmari, of the southern Saudi province of Asir, decided to pardon the killer of his father following mediation by relatives and friends, adding that he exempted the defendant from paying diya (blood money).
