Saudi picks mum to open city’s first women-only café

A Saudi man picked his mother to inaugurate the first women-only coffee shop in his town in the conservative Gulf Kingdom, saying this would bring him good luck.

The man named the café “Fouz coffee shop for woman”, the first café to be dedicated only for female guests and run by women in the Western Red Sea town of Alqunfudah.

“I asked my mother to inaugurate the café to bring me luck…her agreement to open this café is a great honour for me,” the unnamed café owner told Sabq daily.

He said the café would serve cold and hot drinks in addition to snack meals, adding that he thought about the project because many local women need to meet outside their homes or hold family parties and other events.
