A pregnant Saudi student delivered at the university after she went into labour and the university doctor refused to let her go to hospital without her husband or another custodian, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Mariam Al Manzi was rushed to the clinic at Imam Mohammed bin Saud University in the capital Riyadh, but the doctor insisted that her husband or family member must accompany her to the hospital in the ambulance which was waiting at the gate.

“My husband works in a distant place while it took my brother nearly three hours to come to the university because of the busy traffic,” she told ‘Al Muwatin’ daily.

“The doctor then agreed that I go with my brother in his car. But at the gate, a security woman warned me that I could deliver in the car.

“I stayed at the university for a while before I went into labour again and delivered a boy there.”
