'Senile baby' rumoured born in Saudi

A Saudi mother is rumored to have given birth to a baby who looked like an ageing man and shocked even the doctors who delivered him, a local newspaper reported on Sunday.

Sharq Arabic language newspaper published what it said was a photograph of the baby, who is rumoured to have been born at a hospital in the southern Saudi province of Jazan.

The paper said the news and the picture had been circulated by many websites and mobile phone users in the province.

“Some of them had video films for the alleged baby…they call him ‘the senile baby’ and affirm that he was born at a Jazan hospital, where a training nurse filmed the baby being checked and photographed by the surprised doctors as his mother was wailing.”

But the paper quoted a health official in the province as saying he had no idea such a baby had been born at a Jazan hospital.

“This report is baseless because no hospital in Jazan recorded the birth of such a baby…the film could be taken at a hospital outside Jazan,” said Jibril Al Qabi, Jazan health department spokesman.
