An American college freshman was killed after she leaned out of a window to take pictures and fell eight floors to the busy Philadelphia sidewalk below, landing on a woman who was walking by.

Rebecca Kim, 18, was visiting two friends in the posh Rittenhouse Square section of Centre City when she leaned out the dorm room window to take pictures and tumbled out around 6 pm on Thursday.

The Temple University freshman slammed into a 44-year-old woman walking along Chestnut Street below, sending both to the ground.

Kim suffered severe head trauma and died at a nearby hospital shortly after, while the woman lost several teeth and fractured a vertebrae but is expected to survive.

Kim was visiting two friends who attend the Art Institute of Philadelphia when she is believed to have gone out on the small window ledge to take photos.

The victim’s boots still lay on the sidewalk as authorities investigated the tragic scene on Thursday. Police planned to interview all witnesses, including the teen's friends who were inside the room.

“It definitely gives you a reality check, make you wanna call your friends and family and just tell them that you love them because you just saw somebody die right in front of you,” witness Isis Alize told.

Temple University offered counseling for grief-stricken students and said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her (Kim’s) family and friends.”

Kim graduated last June from Wissahickon High School in the Philadelphia suburb of Ambler. She was a pre-pharmacy student at Temple University.
