UAE troops replacing soldiers who returned home last week arrived in Aden as part of a Saudi-dominated Arab coalition and some of them deployed around the Presidential Palace possible to secure the return of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Thousands of Yemenis in Aden lined up the roads carrying placards and chanting for the UAE forces for their role in liberating Marib and many other areas from the Iranian-backed Houthis forces loyal to deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

“Some of the UAE troops who arrived in Aden yesterday headed for deployment at the Presidential Palace area in Maasheeq… the move is possibly intended to secure the return of the President to Aden,” the UAE daily Al Bayan said.

Hadi has been residing temporarily in Saudi Arabia since the rebels launched a coup with Iranian help, prompting Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other Gulf and Arab countries to send troops to quell the revolt and restore legitimacy.

In a report from Aden, Al Bayan said the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other coalition members continued to send reinforcements to the Southeastern Taiz city ahead of a major offensive to expel the coup insurgents.

It said clashes erupted on many fronts in Taiz and other areas in Yemen on Thursday, adding that many Houthis and other insurgents were killed, including 35 in Lahaj.
