Yemen’s national resistance fighters seized several coup rebel positions in the South-central Ibb governorate in a surprise offensive that marked a turnaround in its military strategy, a news network reported on Sunday.
“We have shifted our operations from a defensive to an offensive stage.
“We have seized several positions held by the Houthis and their allies in surprise attacks in Ibb,” Masdar Online said, quoting Faisal Al Shaouri, a resistance field commander.
He said the offensives targeted Hazm Al Adeen, where heavy battles raged between the resistance fighters and the Iranian-backed insurgents.
Another attack at dawn targeted Houthi positions in Shiwar, which was used by the rebels to shell residential areas, he added.
“Heavy fighting erupted after the attacks on those areas and nearby positions including Bani Shabeeb and Al Samaela village.
“Our fighters also seized positions in Jameema, Qooz Al Rasas and Ras Al Jaha after the rebels retreated.”
Al Shaouri said the fighters launched the assaults after the Houthis and their allies violated a field agreement to stop shelling civilian areas.
“We succeeded in expelling them from many areas. We will not stop as our next target is Al Hazm area. We are planning to work with the resistance in all other areas to completely liberate Ibb from the coup militias,” he said.
Warning residents from helping the insurgents, he declared: “Anyone who helps or supports the coup militias will be a legitimate target of the resistance fire.”
