Saudi cops arresting an old Arab beggar in front of a hospital in the Gulf Kingdom were surprised to find that he had made more than SR11,000 (Dh11,000) in just one day.
Police arrested the man sitting next to the government hospital gate in the Western town of Taif within an ongoing crackdown on begging, which is banned in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf oil producers.
“Police searching him found that he had made more than SR11,000 on that day. They also found foreign currency in his pockets,” ‘Sada’ newspaper said.
Most of the beggars caught in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Gulf countries are expatriates, who are immediately deported.
