Saudi journalist commits suicide

A Saudi journalist committed a suicide by hanging himself in the toilet at his apartment, leaving behind a two-word letter saying “my will.”

The unidentified journalist, in his 50s, was suffering from psychological problems and had tried to kill himself two years ago but he was saved in the last minute, the Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz reported on Thursday.

The paper did not identify the man but said he had worked as an editor at a number of Saudi newspapers and was known for his “good conduct.”

Police found the journalist hanged in the toilet in his apartment in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah after his nephew told them of his phone call.

“Just before he hanged himself, he phoned his sister and said he was sorry because he could no longer stand his psychological problem…he then turned the phone off, prompting his worried sister to send her son to his flat,” Okaz said.

“His nephew found the apartment’s door open…when he entered, he saw his uncle hanged in the toilet and found a small paper carrying the words ‘my will.”

Police said investigation showed there was no criminal activity involved in the death of the journalist.
